Start your trip with a big splash. Grab the kids and take them to see real mermaids join schools of tropical fish and stingrays in a massive 117,000-gallon aquarium for a bubbly playdate under the sea. The Silverton Las Vegas Mermaid Show is free and runs Thursday through Sunday.

Now that you’ve set the bar high, head to Hershey’s Chocolate World on the Strip. At this two-story Willy Wonka factory of fun, your kids can send virtual Hershey’s kisses to friends, customize their very own chocolate bars and wrappers, star in their own Reese’s commercial, and even create their own peanut butter cup combination. Admission is free.

Feeling a little sugar rush after all that? Here’s a way to get the kids to cool their jets. Check out the Fountains of Bellagio®. Every 15 to 30 minutes, depending upon the time of day, more than 1,200 lighted fountains spring to life and sway to a rotating playlist of hits from the Beatles to Pavarotti. While you’re there, step inside to stop and smell the roses at the Bellagio® Conservatory & Botanical Gardens. Four times a year, this space blossoms into a fresh, new floral fantasy that’s totally over the top and akin to a winning Rose Parade® entry. The best part? There are no dollars involved, just scents.

Don’t have a clue for what to do next? Challenge your kids to find the Hidden Pizza Place at The Cosmopolitan. Discover it and you’ll soon know why the popular grab-and-go spot has social media raving, why it’s made the city’s list of best pizza by the slice, and why it’s worth the hunt. It’s just $3 a slice.

And put a pin in this one. The Pinball Hall of Fame just off the Strip is a wall-to-wall collection of coin-operated machines (150 and counting) that will have your kids’ faces lighting up. There are old-school electro-mechanical marvels, `90s solid-state classics, and even modern pins like Stern Pinball® Batman and Guardians of the Galaxy to flip over. And just like the arcades of old, you just change up your dollars for quarters and pay as you play. Games will set you back 25-75 cents. There’s no admission fee.

Something else the kids might flock to? The Flamingo® Wildlife Habitat. This free-to-visit, four-acre hideaway with tropical birds, meandering streams, waterfalls, turtles, and fish is a perfect spot for a time-out. Stop by between 8:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. to catch one of the Habitat’s Keeper Talks.

Ready to desert the Strip? Load up the kids and head 10 miles south to the Seven Magic Mountains. Created by the Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone in 2016, the popular installation features seven stacked towers of locally sourced boulders painted in playful dayglo hues and soaring 30 feet into the air. While it might be hard to miss, it’s even harder to pass up on the price—FREE.

You can also head to the Lion Habitat Ranch in Henderson. With more than 20 majestic lions, you’re sure to get a roaring response from the fam. Stop in anytime between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Thursday through Monday and you can get up close with the big cats. You can also meet, feed, and even score a painting by the world’s only brush-painting giraffe, Ozzie, and check out the sanctuary’s other exotics. Ticket prices start at $8 per kid.

Whew! After a day out with the kids in Vegas, there’s nothing like a dip in one of our own cool pools to revive tired feet. So, why not grab the towels—and the kids—and head over. The Desert Club Resort Tiki Tide Pool awaits.

There you have it. Proof big fun doesn’t have to come with a big price tag. But make no mistake—this is only a start. There are plenty more ways to make priceLESS vacation memories in Las Vegas.
