Disappointing - beautiful and historic site, but poorly managed
My husband and I booked a couple nights for a staycation here. The arrival and check in process was disjointed and confusing, and staff seemed slightly unprepared. The room itself was nice - well laid out, helpful kitchen setup - although it’s very dated, there were different color lightbulbs, and the fridge wobbled as though it wasn’t quite level. When we were out on our patio (a lovely touch) we could often smell cigarette smoke from someone else’s porch. The hot spring area was nicely laid out with different temp tubs, which was awesome. Check in for the area was unfortunate and, like most of the hotel management/setup, felt careless - there was a beautiful and historic bathhouse entryway, but that was closed off with guests routed through a generic hotel gift shop/food store instead. That felt confusing. We enjoyed our time in the springs themselves - good layout and fun bird watching. Finally, we were excited to eat at the on site restaurant but ended up leaving after 1) the host was kind of rude to us, asking if we had a reservation and when we said no, she lifted her eyebrows and looked down as though there might not be space (at check in they said we didn’t need a reservation, and plus the restaurant only had a few parties seated at tables), 2) the server came by and then didn’t return for such a long while that we had time to decide to leave. The menu was all over the place and overpriced. We ended up making a good meal in our room. Overall, I was ready to have a good time at this place and wanted to recommend it to friends, but wouldn’t return, even despite the springs, unless it was under new management and/or improved to draw out the actual character of the place and provide a unique/relaxing experience.

Changes needed
Checkin clerk was cold and uncaring Restaurant was closed and there was no advance notification. Pools are great. Don’t forget your sunscreen. Small rooms are adjacent to the larger rooms. The connecting door is very thin. You can hear the other room occupants and smell their cooking. A fair amount of children there, changes the romantic feeling of the place. There wasn’t any recognition of my IHG status.

Comfortable bed
It was a peaceful and quiet which is what we wanted. The best feature were the hot tubs. So relaxing! If we come back to the area, we will stay there again. The restaurant was just ok. The server forgot our drinks and the food was just ok. But everything else was excellent.

Sad and embarrassing
I will not stay with you again. I was so sad at how this property has gone down hill.

Definitely recommend
Gorgeous location and views. Hot springs are great, though hot pools could be hotter and large pool should be cooler for a refreshing change from the hot springs. Comfortable bed. Very clean. Bathroom cabinets were old and cheap. Lighting in bathroom was too dark. Restaurant on premises was mediocre for both food or beverages, and had limited days and hours opened.

Relaxing and convenient
Upon arrival, I was greeted by a friendly staff member for check-in then sent to the concierge desk. They answered all my questions and handed out a few maps of the overall property which helped as the site is actually larger than anticipated. It was very convenient having a restaurant and bar onsite serving what I would consider to be an “upscale” menu. The hot springs tubs and large heated pool were a pleasant and unique experience with each one being a different temperature. Everyone was so relaxed in that setting and it was nice to chat with all the different folks. There’s a pool house complete with a sauna, steam room, showers and lockers. All the staff were very friendly and accommodating especially the pool maintenance kid. This was a nice change from the previous poor reviews regarding staff. The surrounding views of the snow covered mountains looked like a postcard. Bring your binoculars to watch the geese and wildlife in the adjacent open sanctuary. The short stroll to Genoa day on the paved trail was an added bonus. Overall a very relaxing and pleasant stay.
